Sport-by-sport notes

NFL

NFL contests run on weekly slates. The nine spots include a team-level Defense and Special Teams selection, which aggregates individual defensive statistics together with kicking production into a single team score rather than using a separate kicker spot.

NBA and WNBA

Basketball contests run on daily slates. Both use guard, forward and center eligibility across the nine spots, and both are heavily affected by late injury and rest news, so checking status before lock matters more than in most sports.

MLB

Baseball contests split the nine spots between pitching and position players. Confirmed starting lineups are typically published closer to first pitch than in other sports.

NHL

Hockey contests cover skaters and goaltenders. Line combinations and confirmed starting goaltenders are the main pre-lock variables.

Lineup construction basics

• Work the cap, not the roster. Nine spots under a cap means every selection has an opportunity cost measured in salary, not just in points.
• Move the cap deliberately. The sliding scale runs 50,000 to 60,000. Setting it to the exact total of a core group generates that lineup first, then every valid combination the rest of your pool can produce alongside it.
• Watch pricing lag. Salaries reprice from recent performance, so a player whose role changed recently may not yet be priced for it.
• Check status before lock. Entries lock when the first game in the slate begins, and a scratched player scores nothing.
• Read the payout structure. It is published before each contest locks, and it changes how much variance is worth accepting.
